An Australian species. A similar form called "echo" found in Japan. (Please note that the genus has been changed to Monoplex & the species to parthenopeus)
The periostracum has not been removed to cater to the more advanced collectors. If a collector desires the perio to be removed just remove the operculum then place the shell in neat bleach. This is an excellent size and in the upper grades.
