.  There is something about finding a cowrie under a small piece of dead coral that just takes your breath away.  The shell seems to glow in the water, angels begin to sing, and before you know it, you're singing too!  Almost all of the small cowries I've collected in Hawaii were found in that way, just sitting there in 12 inches of water under a small rock, at a place I could only get to at low tide.  My favorite spot was a large slab of dead coral at Sandy Beach that was a pain to lift up (and often exciting, since moray eels
also
liked to hide under the same large slab) but checking under that slab was almost always worth the effort---
helvolas, maculiferas, isabellas, monetas, pennaceus
cones in the sand and more were all found under that same slab over the years.
This
shell however, was found in that magical spot---Tahiti, I mean, when I read about the great shells found there, it reminds me of Fort Kam reef on Oahu, a wonderful place to go collecting that everyone
else
got to go collecting at, but not me!  Anyhow, this exquisite beauty was found at low tide under a piece of dead coral at Tuamotu, Tahiti, (even the
names
of these places sounds fantastic, ouch!) and as the photos show, is a GEM that will look
terrific
sitting on your shelf
!

As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest!
