EXQUISITE BEAUTY from Zanzibar
.  Found by a diver in 10-20 feet of water, Zanzibar Island, Tanzania.  This small variant of the chinensis cowrie is a mature, glossy beauty with pastel-coloring, and is another of those shells that locks itself into your memory if you ever find one.  I found only one while living at Kwajalein, and considering that I was surrounded by miles and miles of beauty coral reefs stretching off into the distance, it is worth remarking about that I found
my
cypraea chinensis in two inches of water in a tiny puka (hole) on the flat, barren part of the reef, six feet from shore.  Or to say it another way, I found it by blind luck in a place where it
shouldn't
have been!  That's shell collecting.  The occasional chinensis is found in Hawaii
too
, but they are actually more rare than cypraea tessellatas, so you rarely see one offered for sale from there.  Anyhow,
this
beauty was found where it should have been, under a piece of dead coral out in the wild, blue seas of Zanzibar, and as the photos show, it is
an incredible GEM that will look
terrific
sitting on your shelf!

As for normal disclaimers, we do the best we can with photos, but color is tricky, especially since cell phone cameras automatically lean towards flesh-tone coloring, (that's why so many of the photos of shells on eBay show up with more orange than is really there, the camera changes the color, and damm if I can figure out how to stop that from happening, but I try, honest!
